Description:

Pro-inflammatory cytokines play key roles in mediating acute inflammatory reactions, namely IL-1, TNF-a, IL-6, IL-8 and other chemokines, GCSF, and GM-CSF. The cytokines known to mediate chronic inflammatory processes can be divided into those participating in humoral inflammation, such as IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-7, IL-9, IL-10, IL-13, and those contributing to cellular inflammation such as IL-1, IL-2, IL-3, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, IL-10, IL-12, and TNF-a. The anti-inflammatory cytokines are a series of immunoregulatory molecules that control the proinflammatory cytokine response. Major anti-inflammatory cytokines include interleukin (IL)-1 receptor antagonist, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-11, and IL-13. Specific cytokine receptors for IL-1, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and IL-18 also function as pro-inflammatory cytokine inhibitors.
